Some time ago we were advised that we should have the Church roof structure examined by a surveyor due to the poor condition of the interior decoration and plaster.
The survey was carried out this year and it was found that the Church roof is in need of repair and the rainwater furniture requires replacing for a more substantial size to accommodate the rainfall from such a large area. The foundations of the Porch require examining to find the cause of the subsidence and to rebuild the Porch. The Choir Vestry roof also requires replacing.
The work is estimated to cost around £200,000 and we have applied to the English Heritage Fund in partnership with the Heritage Lottery Fund for that amount. If the money is granted we will have to provide 20% of that amount or £40,000 - quite a tall order. In order to formulate the application a small committee was formed.
The directors of G & J Seddons are keen to help us due to their family involvement with the Church over the generations. The Seddon Group have pledged £10,000 towards the costs of the renovations and have offered to help us in any way possible in the future.
We shall know if our application has been successful in January 2005.
In the meantime we need to start fundraising to find our contribution to the costs of the restoration which, if everything goes to plan, will be paid in 2006/7. We intend to apply to other charities for grants to assist us meet our goal.
If you wish to make a pledge or donation to this restoration fund then please contact us by email and we will be happy to get in touch. Additionally, if you feel that you can make any useful contribution to the above committee or Fund Raise do not hesitate to come forward.
